LACTATION SERVICES

Both Meg and Leonora have professional and personal experience with breastfeeding and breastfeeding support.  They each breastfed their own children and faced the common challenges that lactating people face (mastitis, sleep loss, frustration with the lack of a “schedule”).  They also both know the incredible satisfaction of providing the calories and sustenance your newborn needs to grow big and strong!  They have helped thousands of birthing people initiate breastfeeding in the first hours following delivery and have pursued multiple continuing education opportunities in lactation and breastfeeding support during their years practicing midwifery.  Additionally, they have assisted in troubleshooting lactation challenges that emerge in the first days and weeks after birth.  These include but are not limited to:

  • Assessing newborn oral anatomy and potential impact on breastfeeding

  • Referral for revision of tongue and lip ties when necessary

  • Education on the many ways to hold baby at the breast - including cradle, cross-cradle, football, side-lying and others

  • Help with increasing supply when necessary

  • Help with reducing oversupply

  • Assistance with initiating pumping and prescriptions for breast pumps

  • Help with common clinical challenges like thrush and Raynaud’s syndrome

  • Help coping with overactive letdown

  • Assistance with helping newborn accept a bottle

  • Re-lactation assistance for non-birth parents

  • Referral to MD for Reglan Rx when indicated

  • Referral to IBCLC for additional lactation services when required
